Book 9: Time-Traveling Mischief: Insights from Eric by Terry Pratchett

Ummm…… ha

Umm..

I read this book in one sitting, over 5 hours, then left it for the next day, then listened to it, which took another 5 hours.

Can someone tell me what happens in this book!!

After 10 hours, I can’t tell you what happens in this book.

I got a basic idea, Eric, a demonology hacker, using a spell to try to summon a demon and grant him three wishes. But he messes up and somehow summons Rincewind and his trunk. Then they embark on a journey, somehow travelling through space and time.
(That’s on the back of the book.)

Okay.

After Rincewind returns and talks to Eric, you quickly learn that Eric is a teenage boy, and after saying his wishes, Rincewind snaps his fingers and……

Now standing in a room looking down at the world?? Eric is amazed at the sight….. Then, all of a sudden, someone mentions signing a contract. Eric says I have to try it first to see if it works??
What do you mean? The world is always working.

Oh, it’s only the first chapters in and I’m already finding Eric ANNOYING!!

Umm im confused!

There’s a small chatter, then the Wizard snaps his fingers again. We have since moved to an entirely different location and time period.

Then, with a snapped figure, moves to a new location, spends some time and then SNAPs to another location.

Im not sure what to write down without going into key details on the ‘plot’.

It’s amusing to say this aloud, discussing a Discworld book. I know it’s only 100-something pages, but I think this book’s story unfolds incredibly quickly! Almost too fast.

Or

These events are confusing me!

Like what I said before, the Wizard snapped his fingers and… now they are standing SUPER high up, looking down at the entire world. Ok, so he’s watching ‘Great A’tuin’ (The Giant Turtle) swimming through space.
Then.. Rincewind …. Says “don’t break it”….

Break what? Is the world now interactive? Can Eric now just reach down and… pick up a mountain?

Then we move on to signing contracts and seeing if ‘it’ is working probably, paying tribute, mineral ores…. Then Rincewind snaps his fingers and we move on…

After the first trip, the plot got better, and you get to spend some time in these locations. (Still can’t tell you what happens).

The ‘bad’ guy is another demon chasing our heroes, but apart from having a conversation with Death, he doesn’t really do much.

……..

I can’t really say much, that’s all I can remember haha.

I guess that’s all I got, think I’ll just leave it here.

Check out my other reviews.

  1. ummmmm……. think I would give this book a miss – sounds too fast and confusing to me!! Looks as though it lacks any ‘depth’?
